Shark Nets

SHOULD THEY STAY OR SHOULD THEY GO?

a website transcribed by Jordan Katz

What is the issue?

Shark Nets are submerged nets that are placed around beaches to reduce shark attacks on swimmers. However, people do not understand the devastation and destruction these nets cause. Just last year, over 15,000 animals were unintentionally killed by these nets in NSW - this includes endangered turtles, dolphins, dugongs and many more. Last year, shark nets were responsible for the death of two humans, more fatal attacks than the sharks themselves!!

We must act upon this before we cause the extinction of endangered and protected species.

About

How can we fix this?

We must fix this before it's too late for some endangered species. We plan to begin an initiative in order to save the 100+ species being tangled and killed in these nets every year. Follow our journey to saving the lives of these beloved animals!

Technology has improved since the introduction of shark nets in 1930. There are a plethora of alternatives that are able to protect both humans and wildlife. See how you can help us to defeat the stigma against shark nets!
